Texas OilTech Laboratories, established in 1985, is a privately held, independent petroleum testing laboratory with offices and laboratories across North America, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. ​

Our Story
The Texas OilTech Laboratories story began in 1985 with two young entrepreneurs who recognized the need for a responsive and reliable testing laboratory in Houston. They aimed to meet the growing demand for fast turnaround times across a range of analytical services, serving professionals such as crude oil gatherers, toll blenders, and others in the local petroleum and petrochemical sectors. ​

As chemical engineers, the founders capitalized on their technical expertise in delivering high-quality service and accurate data interpretation. Strategically located in West Houston, between crude oil gatherers and refineries, Texas OilTech Laboratories offered unmatched convenience. Drivers could drop off samples at the back door and enjoy a cup of coffee while waiting for the analysis of critical components, such as sulfur content, which often determined which refiner would purchase the load. ​

Toll benders also relied on rapid turnaround to evaluate the composition of complex hydrocarbon blends, which could include end-of-run products, twilight materials, and recycled streams.

Over time, TOL's analytical capabilities have grown significantly to meet the evolving needs of its clients. ​Today, the laboratory offers more than 1,000 test procedures concerning a broad spectrum of gaseous and liquid fuels, natural and synthetic lubricants, and specialized petroleum products.
Recognizing the growing need for analytical testing directly at job sites such as power plants, Texas OilTech Laboratories began offering on-site testing services, initially across the Houston area, and eventually on a global scale. Our international presence has grown through successful partnerships with world-class organizations like GE, Siemens, and Mitsubishi.

Today, on-site testing is a core component of TOL's operations, with teams regularly deployed to new power plant sites around the world. The company now has the capacity to support multiple fully equipped crews simultaneously, whether for performance testing, plant commissioning, or diagnosing fuel related issues in the field. ​

Texas OilTech Laboratories has also earned a strong reputation as a solutions-driven laboratory. By using multiple analytical techniques, the team conducts in-depth investigations into issues involving lubricants, petrochemicals, and fuels formulations for gas turbines and diesel engines.
